Tentative Deal on January 6th Commission

The House Homeland Security Committee has reached a deal for a January 6th Commission to investigate the deadly insurrection of the US. Capitol. Republicans have blocked the proposed commission for months trying to expand the investigation to include right wing conspiracy theories about Antifa and Black Lives Matter. The January 6th Commission still faces significant obstacles in the Senate where McConnell has pledged to block it.

“It is imperative that we seek the truth of what happened on January 6 with an independent, bipartisan 9/11-type Commission to examine and report upon the facts, causes and security relating to the terrorist mob attack,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.

Democrats are powering ahead with their response to the Capitol attack after months of gridlock and partisan sniping that had stalled progress on the security funding and commission.
